Well, as anyone who has been paying attention for the better part of this decade knows, Muslims of a certain stripe don't take kindly to anyone who doesn't follow their customs and way of life. Recently, a British woman living and teaching in Sudan was jailed for the reprehensible crime of naming a class teddy bear "Muhammed." Wait, scratch that. She didn't name it, she merely allowed her class to name it. One boy named Muhammed actually suggested the name, after his own.
What happened next, I'm not sure, but somehow this woman ended up in a Sudanese prison. Better still, she faced a maximum sentence of prison time or forty lashes. Forty lashes with a bamboo cane no wider than a finger has the potential to cause serious permanent damage.
Now, as those who pay attention expected, come the calls for her death. For her death! Who, pray tell, put out these calls? Osama bin Laden? Mahmoud Ahmahdinejad? No, nobody so grand. Local imams preached on the subject today, and afterwards their followers massed for a protest, brandishing knives and clubs and demanding this British woman's execution.
This is clear evidence of the effect of just kernels of radical Islam on a population. Where it is allowed to fester, the populace is soon consumed with a violent antipathy towards non-Muslims and a complete disregard for common sense.
The article states that many British Muslim groups have come out against this action. This is commendable! I have often lamented that the very people in the best position to quash radical Islam - moderate, pro-democracy Muslims - are nearly always silent by choice or by cowardice or by coercion. The more moderate Muslims speak out against things like this - like the Saudi rape case, like the honor killing which took place in London itself - the more progress will be made against our mutual enemy.
And why is Britain even tolerating this? Was a time when the British commandos would have stormed that prison, relations with a pissant little country like Sudan be damned. Shouldn't the lives of British subjects be protected from unjust persecution in foreign lands? This woman committed no crime, and should be freed immediately. She may not last the 15 days in that jail cell before a mob comes and carries her to her death.
I loathe these feckless, lawbreaking, adolescent intellects. Hippies and morons, interbred to create entitled little snots that want to be John Lennon.
Well I have news for you: John Lennon is dead, and if I had been the Capitol Police chief for this protest march you can bet your biscuits that these sandaled peaceniks would have had a taste of tear gas...at the very least! And Sean Penn? He was there.
Two words for you Sean.
Rubber. Bullets.
Don't these idiots understand that actions such as occur at these protests do nothing to increase the protester's credibility with the average person? Provoking a police 'attack' would net you what? Sympathy? You could point to the big bad feds and everyone would forget that you charged them? I hate to say it, but they rush my line then they get it. A crowd of thousands would be dangerous, not only for my men but for themselves. And defacing public property? Oh nelly.
I really just don't understand what they gain from these things. The gov't won't listen to them. The vast majority of people won't listen to them. Hell, most of the people there would be too high to actually listen. Sean Penn included, damn his eyes.
With the announcement of eager beaver Senator Barack Obama's presidential exploratory whatever-the-heck, there was obviously the question of how Hillary was taking it. Apparently, she's doing rather well, not directly addressing her own presidential aspirations but taking a few pokes at Barack "2-year McGhee" Obama. I'm with Madame Clinton on this one...Obama is a rookie and he's jumping the gun. He's enjoying a whole lotta popularity right now for some reason, and it's probably true that as his popular appeal cools over time, so would his chances for a successful Presidential bid (barring some stellar Senator-ing). So, strike while the iron is hot and all that. Ah, populist leaders. Sometimes they do alright.
Which brings me to the question of whether Hillary will run. I'm almost sure she'll announce it any week now, the main reason being that unless she runs she will be fairly irrelevant for the next 8 years. Let's think: When her husband left office and she scored herself a Senate seat, the talk was that this would be a holdover on her own road to the Presidency. She'd piddle around in the Senate for awhile, get herself some more experience, and then fulfill the dreams of the vast majority of the American population by becoming the first woman President. She would also prove to be the most effective President in history, easily outstripping FDR, JFK, and other notable Democrats. Republicans would finally come around to thinking correctly, and peace would reign with a woman at the helm since we all know that women are less likely to be war-like.
I'm getting sidetracked with bilious commentary. Back on topic: If Hillary Clinton fails to run for the Presidency this election and has to wait out an Obama (or, God Help Us, an Edwards) Presidency, she'll have lost momentum in a big way. People will have stopped waiting with baited breath for her ascendancy. Indeed, the Obama machine is long on charm but short on experience. This is where Clinton really shows him up. But she voted for Iraq, and the simpletons won't like that. Obama's short tenure as Senator might prove an advantage in this regard.
I'm confident that if it came down to Obama v. Clinton, Clinton would outspend and out-politic the Senator from Illinois. But he might just squeak by her.
However, if she really isn't being coy about the Presidency and actually wants to stay in the Senate to work...she's got an iota of respect from me. It takes a lot to resist the mob.
