Not Public, But if I Change One Setting It Will Be

Um...wow. So, for someone who allegedly knows a lot about the U.S. and was in the best grammar school in England, they spelled Rockefeller wrong. Minor point, I know.

I'm no libel/slander lawyer, but I don't think they have any grounds to sue you. Seems like their alleged counsel doesn't think so either. I've seen waaaaay worse said on here before. Probably best to just block them and move on with life.

LMAO! Dear lord. Let me start by saying that I find several of their posts to prove them to be either mentally unstable or ignorant. I am not sure which.

People need to learn to discuss and debate LIKE ADULTS.

PS...to Karlos - do you understand what Jesuits are? Do you understand what Mason's are? Perhaps you should educate yourself prior to throwing around conspiracies you have gleaned from mentally unstable conspiracy theorist around the net!

Thanks for the perspective. I know, I didn't want to point out the grammar and punctuation issues...but it was hard to stop myself. I'll be blocking shortly.

If you go to their various funkcartel, dafunk, etc. sites you notice a trend.
Why do I always get the nutty ones? I just bring out that quality in people, I guess.
Hey are they saying that they run an internet radio station? I wonder if they have paid the royalties on the songs they broadcast?
I have no idea who/what these people are, but it's probably best to let them find something else to fixate on. They do seem a bit unbalanced.

I also find it hilarious that they are threatening you with an impossible legal action, but then actually one-up you on the spreading nasty rumors front. Good luck!

Wow, I leave town and the whole place goes nuts. It was an entertaining read, though; there are all kinds of "interesting" people out there.

For what it's worth at this point, I think you're spot-on (to use a British term) about Obama.

I think any group that calls itself funkcartel and actually takes itself serious has issues (which clearly you've already addressed.)

I think karlos, in his idiocy, gave funkcartel a perfectly good example of what libel actually is.

And I thought I found Vox's biggest winner when I stumbled across this guy....

LMAO!!!!

Apparently, I am a "raging lesbian" because I disagreed with them! HeeHee. I even rated my own bash post!

Scio, Scio - don't give it another thought. Even in England (which has a lower standard for libel/slander than does the US), your posts do not rise to the essential level required; to wit: they do not directly impugn the personal reputations of da funk and karlos [1]. As you have not defamed them by name, but rather by their internet handles, you are covered.

In the US, the standard would be even higher. As you have no malicious intent and as internet speech is considered transitory speech (and thus less subject to be judged libelous than "written speech", such as articles or books) and as you have in no way identified them as persons (just as personas {non gratis}), you have absolutely nothing to fear on this side of the pond.

[1] Why does that sound like a bad 70's band to me?
Good grief! I go away to quilt camp for a few days and when I come back to see what I've missed I discover that all hell has broken loose. Ah well, I suppose it's better that I wasn't here for all the fireworks as I wouldn't have gotten anything else done. 8:-)

Scio, you get the nutty ones because you tolerate them, and while ordinarily I'd have been irritated reading about it, this couldn't have happened at a better time because I received a note from a very nice and respectful individual who was upset that I' removed one of Lenny's posts the othe day and threatened to block him.

I explained that I was merely toying with Lenny, but that I would certainly remove anything that wasn't in keeping with what I wanted on my blog, because the other side of the coin, as I explained, and which you now have presented a perfect example of, is that not only do I have to read the garbage, but if I then allow it to be inflicted on others, it takes their timetoo - and then it multiplies itself.

The libel threat is not just ludicrous, it reflects the mindset of a true moron - as opposed to Lenny who merely plays one as the mood suits.- i hope.

And now I shall take my leave and hope you and the individual who wrote me have learned a lesson from this - entertain no swine before his time...

Warm regards,

Ted

That was my thinking exactly. I'm still convinced they are just the multiple accounts of one person.

The libel threat is not just ludicrous, it reflects the mindset of a true moron

Yeah, once that hit I knew for sure I was dealing with a nutcase.
At least insanity can be interesting! But it also gets monotonous and irritating. I enjoy your blog. I usually feel more intelligent reading many of the conversations here. These guys make my head hurt. Funkcartel? Really?
OMG!!! This whole thing is really unbelievable! Every time I log in I check your site, and find more insanity. You know, in general, I like and respect the British. But between IAA, dafunk, karlos and funkcartel, I'm beginning to think they are all lunatics!
Wow, Jeff, you're right. I think you found a real winner there. It's been a while since I've read anything about the controlled demolition of the WTC buildings. It's scary to think these people are out there in public, isn't it?
I stumbled upon it and ended up reading it for about 10 minutes just to appreciate the depth of that fool's delusion.

Scary and sad. Some people will believe anything their told. It's on the Internets!
I did start to read karlos' ranting but it was way too long and asinine; you're fine, block them and delete karlos. I think you may be right that it's all the same person with different accounts, the rhetoric is consistent. And you know a lawyer or two, should the occasion arise, but I think it's a lot of posturing.
Scio I too was hit by karlos' and a few other conspiracy theorist - they came to the group blogs I started and then traveled to my blogs. I actually deleted and blocked them within a few days.

After the same rhetoric on any post, I checked their blogs and knew they were trouble.

I just stick with throwing the trash out.

The libel threat, I'm not a lawyer, but I would guess they were unable to win the debate and make you bow to their conspiracies so they or he is aware of the libel suits that an American is under and fighting right now. Plus the bill that is in both houses in N.Y. to prevent other countries from putting Americans under other countries laws. From what I understand the bill that is being worked on right now is only for produced writers. (I may be wrong)

But this would post would be a good read for your state representatives. This threat might get their attention to get your state busy about the business of protecting their citizenry from these threats or actions.

I'd like to ask you if I can print this and give it to some of my representatives. I'm in Oklahoma and we take this kind of talk and threat very seriously.

We do have several in our country actually under libel cases from across the pond. But they are because of books.

Is John a lawyer or a student of American Law?
you can surely print the stuff, but I am convinced these people are morons.

We do have several in our country actually under libel cases from across the pond. But they are because of books.

Yes; in most cases, they are in trouble for publishing or selling the books in England or Japan. Both of these countries have very loose libel laws. Truth in no defense under their laws (as it is here), and the level of harm need not be egregious; personal affront will often do. I remember Uri Geller suing James Randi in Japan for statements Randi made to a Japanese newspaper; he won the suit despite being unable to show harm.

Is John a lawyer or a student of American Law?

Neither - I just pay attention to what is going on in the legal arena. If you'd like, I can provide case examples for the points raised in my post.

John
It appears that you aren't the only one who is not amused by these guys...

John
I wondered if you were a lawyer or law student because I've seen several post that have asked if there is a lawyer on Vox.

I am very interested in the libel cases from across the pond. Please do provide case examples and links. And up to our north. Do you know what the libel laws in Canada are?

Thanks for the information and your insight in this subject.
Such is the fate of all who oppose me. Mark ye well this day, and remember ye the terror.
And there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth...

I wondered if you were a lawyer or law student because I've seen several post that have asked if there is a lawyer on Vox.

Any legal advice you get over the internet is worth what the electrons cost...

The best places to start are here and here. A few more notorious cases include Muslims suing over books disparaging jihadists, a politician who got caught with his pants down, and a holocaust denier who forced the defendant to prove that it actually took place. England's laws are notoriously tilted in favor of the claimant, but there are many who would like to change that.

And up to our north. Do you know what the libel laws in Canada are?

It appears that they are similar to those in England (as are Australia's libel laws).

Thanks for the information and your insight in this subject.

My pleasure.

John

Ah you just have to love net trolls, if it were nor for them we would never realize how sane the rest of us are.

I wouldnt worry to much about the legal stuff thats usually the 2nd step of any troll, first they try personal attacks then try to intimidate you with their supposed legal abilities. I get them a lot as a moderator in a political forum and nothing ever comes of it.

Also cloaking themselves with multiple accounts using different names is another frequently used tactic.
