saw kennedy shot on the news, only hours after it happened, they always say do u remember, yes I do.never like to go back, maybe this world might have been different,if he had lived, but its the past now.
I remember it quite well and I have watched clips, movies, etc. I think its wonderful to remember and honor those that died or were hurt. HEll, I remember frantically calling a friend who worked in the WTC up on 101st floor (I think that was the floor). It was by the grace of God that she didn't/couldn't go to work that day. Something kept her from work. Unfortunately, her fiance was an NYC fire fighter and he lost his life.
I expect we wil be seeing a lot of it if Giuliani runs for President. Thats the only thing that he could run on. If he becomes the main GOP candidate - it will be Fear Fest 2008 (Bush did Fear Fest 2004).
On 9/11, I was in my living room watching NYPD Blue, when they suddenly cut to the video of the towers getting hit by the second plane. Looking back, I thought it was all part of the show, when I suddenly switched to a different channel and saw the same thing shown.
My aunt and cousins were on holiday in New York, where they said they'd be going to see the World Trade Center, and that got me frantic. Throughout the weeks we contacted every one of our relatives in US and called the embassy there to make sure they were not harmed in the reprisals of what had happened.
It wasn't a jihad, it was mass murder. And whenever I saw someone celebrating that event, I would tell them they were idiots.
I find the act of instilling fear and paranoia in people as unnecessary and uncivilized, which is why I never scare young kids by putting them in a closet and scaring them with the "Boogeyman". This is basically what has been done to the American public since 9/11
Sure, it's fear, but is it an irrational fear? Or is it a fear
that we should have, like the fear of touching a hot stove or the fear
of being eaten by dogs?
I don't think Giuliani has the nomination. It's looking to me like Romney or McCain, or possibly a dark horse.
I remember 9/11 like it happened yesterday. I was glued to my TV and sat there for several hours crying and praying, crying and praying. I was like a zombie. It was hard to believe what I was seeing. I didn't feel fear, but I felt a lot of anger.
On the topic of the 08 election, I do not think Rudy will get it. This is more like the Belmont Stakes, the long race. Rudy might have a chance if this was The Preakness, the shorter race. I think Rudy would make a great Attorney General. He did clean up New York when it was at its worst. Now, it is respectable again. I Like Fred Thompson and I hope he gets in the race. I think we need a no nonsense conservative.
I remember being at work..pregnant with my first child. All I could think was how unreal it felt and how scared I was about what I was going to be bringing my child into.
How the hell do you figure that? Regardless of whether it was a huge organization, or a few rebels....thousands of people died. (And not all were Americans, might I add) I'd say that's a fairly good reason to put up our dukes, and prepare to protect our home.
Pug...pffffttt. we wouldn't have bothered with a pug.
I was in Boston on my way to class during my freshman year of college. I stopped by the student center and saw everyone standing around watching it live on television. I managed to catch the second plane and the subsequent collapse shortly thereafter. That's when things started to go real crazy. People running around campus, sure that Boston was about to get hit with some kind of nuclear device, rumors that the metro trains on the red line had been exposed to some kind of gas, and everyone seemed to have a friend of a friend who knew somebody in the FBI who had told them the exact date of the next planned attack. What a load of horse shit.
Still glad we went into Afghanistan. Still glad we went into Iraq. Gladder, still, that we're still in Iraq.
Sorry, not talking about the terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan. I hated the Taliban because of their radical conservatism. And I knew Osama was a sadistic radical. Saddam was a tyrant. The only thing I had in common was the fact that we're both Sunnis. He deserved to be hanged for what he did. Without the jeering.
I'm talking about how Americans are continually put on terrorist alerts, how racial profiling is being conducted, how milk for babies or even hair gel is not allowed on the plane. Even the Dubai ports issue was a no-brainer for me.
time will tell whether it was necessary. But better to overreact than to be unprepared.
Ultimately I think that if a group is really determined they will carry
out another attack. All it would take is a "true believer" who
has no overt ties to the terrorists. Or, a convert from within
America.
The restrictions seem silly but they are in place because of a very
real threat. I don't need shampoo in my carry on luggage anyway.
As for racial profiling, if it looks like a terrorist and it talks like
a terrorist...it might be a terrorist. We're looking at younger
Arab males, or maybe some East Asians like Muslim Filipinos...but those
guys haven't made much of a splash here. I don't know much about
Malaysians. Racial profiling is common sense, just like it was
common sense to take an extra look at people with German surnames in
World War II.
Malaysians get searched too. Rather thoroughly, I am willing to add. But yeah, I'll agree on the point of safe than sorry, but I would think that would prove the attack on Iraq totally uncalled for.
The best defense is a good offense. We've killed a whole bunch of
terrorists who otherwise wouldn't even have been in Iraq. Like
flies to spoiled meat they come, and we swat them with our daisy
cutters and .50 caliber machine guns. Perhaps an Iraqi wouldn't
appreciate the analogy.
Anyway, I believe we need to be in Iraq and engaged in the larger
Middle East until those yahoos can take care of themselves.
Paternalistic? Sure, I guess so. But it beats letting that
whole region go to blazes.

Why stop breast milk from being on planes? Why hair gel? Why racial profiling? Why that colorful, sesame street-ey color code for danger level?
Was all that necessary?
